I receive lots of emails, comments, and Instagram DMs asking about how I started blogging, how I edit my photos, what size I wear, etc., and so I thought it would be helpful to create a frequently asked questions (FAQ) page for those curious minds!
What is your nationality?
I was born and raised in London, England. The same in the hospital as Prince William and Prince Harry, but with much less media attention! I moved to the U.S. when I was 14, so I’m a dual citizen. Chicago has always been my second home as we could frequently visit to see family and we made a permanent move in the early 2000s.
What is your ethnicity?
I am 100% Indian. My dad was born in Uganda, Africa and my mom was born in India; they moved to England after they got married.
When first starting your blog, what were your intentions?
Life with Payal was born out of my love for all things lifestyle and my long-standing desire to start a blog. I am excited to explore this new creative outlet and share with others my unique perspective on life in the Windy City.
Centered around life, beauty, food, entertainment, and travel, Life with Payal provides its readers with a captivating inside look into my personal experiences, opinions, and recommendations.
What life/job experience do you believe has helped you in the blogging world? Did you go to college?
My education has been a valuable experience. I have an M.S. in Health Communication from Boston University (where I also taught for a Visual Communication course) as well as a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from The Illinois Institute of Art.
Are you a full-time blogger or do you have another supplemental income?
I am not a full-time blogger! I am currently a Marketing Lead for a global professional services firm in Chicago. I have more than 12 years of achievement in marketing strategy, brand building, data analytics, and marketing technology, so I stay busy!
What was the most challenging aspect of starting Life with Payal?
It was just getting started! It took me almost ten years before I finally took the plunge. It’s never too late.
What type of camera and lenses do you use?
I use a Canon Mark IV with a 50mm f/1.2 L, a Sony RX100VA Cyber-shot Camera and my iPhone XR. I edit all of my photos in Adobe Lightroom and sometimes utilize the mobile app, Snapseed.
Are you married?
I have been with my husband for seven years. We met ten years ago in Chicago.
What’s your policy on working with brands?
Staying true to my readers is the most important to me on my blog. I am extremely selective when it comes to deciding which brands I will collaborate and work with. I only work with brands and companies that I genuinely love or would use/have if I did not have a blog. In the past, many brands have reached out about collaborations which I had to decline politely because they would not be a right fit for Life with Payal or my style.
Do you accept gifts?
The same goes for gifts—I only accept gifted products if they are a brand I naturally love and would usually purchase on my own. Gifted products within blog posts are noted with (℅).
How tall are you and what sizes do you wear?
I am 5ft 2 inches. I am a size small for pretty much all tops. I wear a size medium if I want an oversized or baggy look. Jeans are almost always size 4/27 and my dress size is 2/4 (or small).
Do you have any pets?
I have a lovable black, white and brown Shih-Tzu named Pepsi who is eight years old.
Who do you admire?
Princess Diana, Selena Gomez, and Angelina Jolie.
